Families today receive school messages from more places than ever: email, apps, texts, the school website, social media, and the occasional note in a backpack. Each message is sent with care, and together they can add up to a lot. For most school communicators, the challenge is rarely sending more. It's helping the right message reach the right person, in a way they can actually use.
That's the focus of Less Noise, More Connection: Rethinking School Communication, a free CACE/ACACÉ virtual event presented by SchoolBundle and led by communications consultant Liz Pittman. The session takes place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 12 to 1 p.m. ET.
According to CACE/ACACÉ, the hour looks at how schools can make communication more meaningful and manageable for families and staff. Here's a quick look at the four themes on the agenda, with a few thoughts of our own to get you thinking before the day.
When every update arrives with the same weight, the truly important ones can be harder to spot. Overload isn't a sign that anyone is doing something wrong. It usually reflects small teams doing a great deal for communities that care. One small idea that helps is to look back at a typical week of messages and ask which ones a family really needed, and which could have been combined.
An urgent safety update, a field trip form, and a student celebration each deserve a different home. When families learn where each kind of message lives, they can tune in to what matters and relax about the rest of their notifications. A simple channel guide, shared at the start of the year, can be a kindness to families and staff alike.
One-way announcements will always have a place, and two-way conversations are where trust grows. Research points to a helpful detail here. In a 2026 survey of 474 US K-12 parents and guardians by Alchemer, 90% reported at least a fair amount of trust in their school or district leadership. Where trust slipped was around feedback: 31.1% said their school asks for input but rarely acts on it, and 17.5% said they were never told how their feedback was used. Closing that loop, even with a short note that says "here's what you told us, and here's what we did," can go a long way.
Families and staff feel more at ease when they know what to expect: how often they'll hear from the school, where to look, and roughly how quickly they can expect a reply. Clear expectations also protect the people behind the messages by giving them reasonable boundaries and a shared plan to point to.
The session is designed for school and district communicators, as well as principals, system leaders, and anyone who helps shape how a school community stays connected. Whether you're a team of one or part of a larger department, you'll leave with ideas you can adapt to your own families and staff.
